Anyone can list industrial products on a website. Whether they hold stock, understand the products and can support a problem at 4pm on a Thursday is another matter. These are the checks worth making before placing a first order.

Do they actually hold stock

Ask directly whether the item is ex stock in the UAE or on indent, and ask for the pack size and quantity available. Brokers answer vaguely and quote long lead times that later slip. A stockist gives you a number. Where a warehouse address exists, as with Dubai Investment Park based suppliers, collection should be possible by arrangement, which is itself a useful test.

Do they supply documentation without friction

Technical data sheets and safety data sheets should arrive with the quotation on request, not after chasing. For chemical raw materials, a certificate of analysis should accompany each lot, with the lot number matching the packaging. Our guide to TDS and SDS documents explains what each should contain. Reluctance here is a genuine warning sign.

Can they answer a technical question

Ask something specific: which primer suits shop primed steel that has weathered for three months, or what empty bed contact time your carbon filter needs. A supplier who can reason about the application, or who says plainly that they will check with the principal and come back, is more useful than one who simply confirms whatever you suggested.

Delivery and terms

Confirm realistic delivery windows to your site, not optimistic ones. For dangerous goods, confirm they handle DG transport compliantly, since a supplier who ships an oxidiser casually is a liability. Clarify minimum order quantities, whether trial quantities are available, and how bulk pricing steps work if usage grows.

Continuity

For repeating materials, ask how they handle supply continuity: whether they hold buffer stock, how they manage grade changes from the manufacturer, and whether they can fix pricing against a forecast. Switching a qualified raw material mid production is expensive, so continuity is worth more than a small unit price advantage.
