Most coating quotations in Dubai are delayed for one reason: the enquiry does not contain enough information to price against. A supplier who receives a complete enquiry can usually confirm price and stock the same working day. This guide lists exactly what to include.

The six details that let a supplier price immediately

1. The product or the specification. Name the product if you know it, for example a two pack epoxy primer. If you are working from a consultant specification instead, quote the system line: primer type, intermediate, topcoat, and the dry film thickness for each coat. A supplier can propose equivalents when the full system is visible.

2. The quantity, in the right unit. Coatings are sold by the litre or by the kit. If you only know the steel area, say so: 1,000 square metres at 200 microns total DFT is a quantity a supplier can convert for you using volume solids.

3. The substrate and its condition. New blasted steel, shop primed steel, or old coated steel needing maintenance all point to different products. Surface tolerant primers exist precisely for surfaces that cannot be blasted to Sa 2.5.

4. The environment. Coastal or inland, chemical exposure, immersion, or interior. In ISO 12944 terms this is the corrosivity category, and it changes both the products and the film builds quoted.

5. The colour and finish. RAL number if it matters. Stock shades ship faster than tinted orders.

6. Delivery location and date. Dubai deliveries from stock typically arrive within one to two working days. Abu Dhabi and Sharjah usually add a day.

What slows a quotation down

Enquiries that say only "price for epoxy paint" force the supplier to ask questions before pricing, which costs a day each round. Photographs help enormously for maintenance work: a phone photo of the corroded area tells an estimator more than a paragraph.

Documents to request with the price

Ask for the technical data sheet and safety data sheet with every quotation, and a certificate of analysis where the product is a chemical raw material. A serious supplier sends these without hesitation. Read our guide on the difference between a TDS and an MSDS before your next order.

Getting the best price without the lowest quality

State your annual usage if the product is repeating. Suppliers price single drums and framework volumes very differently, and a committed monthly call off usually beats spot buying by a clear margin. For project work, sending the full bill of materials in one enquiry lets the supplier consolidate freight and sharpen the total.
