The largest energy construction story in the UAE right now runs underground. ADNOC is building the West East Pipeline to carry crude directly to Fujairah on the Gulf of Oman, doubling export capacity that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz. The company reported the line roughly half complete in 2026, with operation targeted for 2027, alongside the existing Habshan Fujairah pipeline that has served the route since 2012.

What a pipeline consumes in coatings

The mainline arrives factory coated, but construction and operation generate continuous field demand: liquid epoxy for field joints at every weld, repair material for handling damage, coatings for valve stations, pig launchers and above ground crossings, and heavy duty systems where lines meet the coast.

The Fujairah end multiplies it

Export capacity needs tankage, and Fujairah is already one of the world's major bunkering and storage hubs. Tank farms mean internal linings on the API 653 cycle, external systems specified to ISO 12944 coastal categories, and passive fire protection on structure. Every additional barrel of throughput pulls maintenance coating demand behind it for decades.

What contractors should take from this

Projects of this scale absorb regional stock and stretch lead times for everyone. Contractors bidding maintenance and fabrication work across the UAE in 2026 and 2027 should lock coating supply earlier than usual and favour suppliers holding material in country.
