FBE is a single thin film fusion bonded epoxy applied to hot pipe, giving excellent adhesion and cathodic disbondment resistance. 3LPE adds a copolymer adhesive and a polyethylene topcoat over that epoxy, which adds mechanical protection and a stronger moisture barrier. FBE suits higher temperature service and is often used where coating repair access is easier, while 3LPE is preferred for rocky backfill, directional drilling and submarine lines.
